NFL 2025 season: Week six

Real-time updates includes live text of the weekend matchups on various channels, starting with the Broncos-Jets clash in London (from 14:00 BST). Additionally, audio coverage is available on select stations covering a separate game (beginning at 9 PM BST).

It's week six in the football calendar and after last week's discussion about two top teams being a potential Super Bowl match-up, each lost their perfect starts.

Striking in those games was the amount of infractions each committed. Philadelphia did so in key moments meaning they essentially defeated themselves having led 17-3 entering the fourth period against the Denver Broncos, set to play in London this Sunday.

However it proved good to observe how Denver quarterback Bo Nix managed to have the shortfall before direct three scoring drives in three attempts during the final period, securing the victory 21-17.

Denver have the defensive player of the year with CB Pat Surtain II. They rank number one in goal-line defense, while Philadelphia lead the league in red zone offence, yet the Broncos prevailed in that battle.

They executed the Eagles' number regarding simulated pressure. They weren't always sending more than four defenders but they could position two LBs in the interior before withdrawing them and send a slot defender off the edge.

At the start in the campaign, it was noted on a program how the Broncos could be the current year's dark horses. They ended the previous year strongly and excelled in continuing that momentum.

Could Denver be this year's dark horses?

New tight end Evan Engram has stepped up significantly and recent running back JK Dobbins is a player the team trusts. He now ranks fifth league-wide in ground gains (402) as well as tied for fourth for rushing touchdowns (four).

It's impressive that the coach Sean Payton displays "RUN IT!" at the top of his playcall sheet.

This demonstrates how Denver are a squad that wants to prioritize the run, since one can do a lot off the back of that. It slows down the pass rush while keeps you in favourable down and distances.

This has helped quarterback Bo Nix, who came into the league as a first-round selection in the prior draft, throwing 29 touchdown passes – second only to Justin Herbert for the rookie record (31 back in 2020).

Other elite QBs have the arm strength to throw all over, but they don't move the mobility that Nix has. He boasts incredible passing ability, a unique trait, plus he is so athletic.

His assets include his mobility, being able to pass on the run, and using different arm angles to deliver throws as he moves out of the pocket, on rollouts. He can deliver that layered pass over the middle or over the corner.

As a rookie QB, at 25, he displays a lot of composure in the pocket and is not really fazed by extra rushers. He aims to avoid a sack as much as possible and is able throw in tight spots. He possesses sharp intelligence and is quick to decide.

When you consistently run the ball it consumes the clock and forces the opponent to stay in play for longer, and if you have an athletic quarterback the defense has to defend the area downfield side to side. It can be exhausting.

Nix has bitten back with the coach during games at times and I think the coach likes that attitude, that he's such a competitor. I think it's exciting for the coach to coach a rookie QB that is similar to moldable clay. He can truly develop him how he wants to build it. I think it's a unique opportunity for him.

Payton has won a championship and now passed Bill Parcells for career NFL wins (173, tying for 14th). He has witnessed everything. In my opinion the achievements Denver are experiencing offensively is mostly due to his guidance, his play-calling, his game sense – and the pairing with Nix helps shape him what he is.

You wouldn't want a more qualified person in your ear, to help you during difficult moments and build confidence.

I believe in the Broncos' defense, in Bo Nix's tenacity and composure. Yet are they strong enough to face a top squad at its best? Since that wasn't a Super Bowl performance by the Eagles in their last game.

Currently, I don't think the Broncos are incredible. They're performing above average, that's a solid position to be in the AFC West. The key is is maintain this path.

They're really good at leaning into their strength, that is the ground game, and that's precisely what they must do against the Jets in London. It's going to be the JK Dobbins show, essentially.

New York have allowed 140 rushing yards per game (sixth worst), five ground scores so far (10th worst), and they are the only team without a win any game.

Ever since the NFL started recording turnovers in 1933, the Jets are the first team to be without a single takeaway through five games, this is kind of shocking when you think that the head coach Aaron Glenn defensive co-ordinator with another team.

Patrick Mahomes says Kansas City are off to a poor start following Monday's defeat to Jacksonville.

Following the upcoming matchup, Denver have a smooth-ish schedule until their break (in week 12) - the New York Giants, the Cowboys, Houston Texans plus Las Vegas Raiders before the Kansas City Chiefs.

In the AFC West, Kansas City are 2-3 and the Broncos are tied with the Los Angeles Chargers at 3-2 meaning they could make a run at leading the West.

This hinges on which form Kansas City shows up they face because Denver {beat|def
