The Denver Nuggets star earned the NBA's Most Valuable Player title in 2021, 2022, and 2024.

Triple NBA Most Valuable Player Jokic suffered a "heartbreaking" knee injury while the Denver Nuggets were defeated by a score of 147-123 to the Miami Heat.

The star player sustained the injury in the latter stages of the opening half in an inadvertent coming together with team-mate Jones.

The other player stepped on the footwear of Jokic, and he promptly collapsed to the court clutching his knee.

The star, that is leading the league season in rebounds and dimes, posted a score of 21 points and eight assists in the contest prior to sustaining the setback.

He is scheduled for an MRI on the following day to determine the seriousness of the problem.

"Immediately, Jokic understood he was hurt," stated Nuggets coach David Adelman.

"This is part of the NBA. Any player who is injured, it's gut-wrenching, particularly somebody as special as Jokic. We will know more tomorrow."

"We'll move on together. Clearly, right now, I am more worried about him personally and the frustration of experiencing a situation of that nature."
