The 'Breaking Bad' Creator Shares He Has an Idea of How The Apple TV+ Show Might Finish... At the Moment.

The creative mastermind could not have predicted that his new science-fiction series would emerge as a massive hit. “I am so grateful to the audience,” he states. “I did not foresee the show being as passionately debated as it is, and it makes me overjoyed.”

Now that Season 1 of the popular program reaching its finale—and the next chapter officially in the works—the creative team recently discussed the audience reaction and whether it will shape the future direction of Pluribus.

On the Overwhelming Audience Reaction

Anyone might to get distracted by the widespread acclaim and fan theories about Pluribus. He is doing his best to ignore the noise.

“The experience is akin to an endless supply of your favorite dessert and being tickled to death,” he says. “It's the greatest thing, but I hear about it through word of mouth, and that's intentional. Never in my life searched for my own name online, nor do I ever plan to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a deep trap I know I would get lost in and then I'd be never leaving the house from Home Depot and I'd never leave my living room.”

In spite of his concerted efforts, there’s it's impossible to ignore the overwhelmingly positive response to the series. The most practical strategy is to acknowledge it humbly and try not to let it dictate the story of the show.

“We make no attempt to change the plot,” says writer and executive producer Alison Tatlock. “Our storytelling is not impacted by what people are saying.”

“Better to keep our focus on the work,” Gilligan concludes.

The Central Mystery: Has the showrunner Know the Finale of Pluribus?

So if the writers are not listening by public opinion, does that mean they have mapped out how Pluribus will finally conclude? The answer is yes… in a way.

“We have some compelling concepts about how the story could conclude,” Gilligan says. “but we are always ready to discard a good idea for a better idea. That philosophy has guided us in excellent shape on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We change course when we conceive of something superior and I expect we'll continue doing that.”

On the other hand, if they hit a wall, director and writer Gordon Smith has a humorous idea to serve as a last resort.

“My recurring proposal is that the entire story is inside a snow globe, and that we'll pull back at the end and the characters are inside it,” Smith jokes, “though the idea hasn't gained traction.”

Of course, why mess with the legendary finales?

“My dream is Carol to awaken next to Bob Newhart,” Gilligan says with a smile.

Pluribus is streaming now on Apple TV+.
