New Year's Revelers Told to Bundle Up with Wintry Weather Predicted Across the UK
Meteorologists are reporting an icy commencement to the new year, with snow anticipated over large parts of the UK. Celebrants have been told to bundle up as sub-zero temperatures are expected for New Year's Eve.
Hogmanay Plans Proceed Despite Alerts
The Scottish capital's famous Hogmanay events are expected to take place, unlike last year's calling-off. This is in spite of advisories for snow over northern Scotland.
"A chilly New Year's Eve night for those who are celebrating, so extra layers will be needed," noted the weather service.
Celebrations Under Open but Frosty Skies
Elsewhere in the UK, the weather is likely to be ideal for fireworks celebrations, with dry conditions and clear skies. Temperatures are expected to be cold, making warm wraps essential, said forecasters.
In more northern areas, skies will be cloudier, but this is unlikely to impact visibility for seeing fireworks. "There is no expectation of low cloud, mist or murk, so you ought to be able to see fireworks, just not stars," remarked one forecaster.
Widespread Snow Warnings for Friday
Heading into Friday, weather warnings are in place across Northern Ireland and extending from Wales, through the north-west, the West Midlands and reaching London and the majority of the south-east of England.

Readings Set to Fall Even More
With the start of 2026, it will be "frosty everywhere where you are," stated forecaster Simon Partridge. Conditions are set to plummet as snow and gale-force winds are predicted to batter the north of the country.
Approximately 10cm of snow could accumulate to have built up in some areas by Friday morning, reaching up to 30cm on the most elevated routes and peaks.
Health Advisories Released
Meanwhile, amber cold health alerts are in force for the north-east and north-west of England. These are set to continue until noon on 5 January, with temperatures expected to fall to between 3C and 5C.
Officials said this indicated the weather was expected to lead to major effects across medical and care provision. This encompasses a potential rise in the mortality rate among those with health conditions or those 65 and older.
