Manchester United Set to Secure German Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants
Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.
A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side
The forward, with half a year left on her contract, has been a consistent goal-getter for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for her country. Her arrival will be seen as a major coup for the Women’s Super League side.
Departure from Munich has been anticipated after she appeared to be fighting back tears while thanking the club's fans after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top forwards. Per reports, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.
Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Attack
The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a significant boost to the team's forward line. She has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.
- For seven straight seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Gathering Steam at Old Trafford
The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club appear to be gathering positive momentum.
Their recent performances include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen additional business:
- The acquisition of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.
On the midfielder's new deal, a club official commented: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”
Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the American league, said: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
