Line of Duty Announced for 7th Season on BBC
The beloved police drama Line of Duty is officially returning for its seventh installment, confirmed by the BBC.
An upcoming six-episode season created by the show's creator starts production in Northern Ireland this spring, according to the network.
The actress shared her enthusiasm about the comeback, saying she was "so excited" about the series' return. Her co-star remarked, "What a joy it is to know that the main trio will be back filming together soon."
The last season concluded in recent years with a finale that drew in over 17 million viewers. Rumors about a new season have been circulating ever since, but confirmation only came this week.
New Challenges for AC-12
The seventh season begins with AC-12 no longer existing and renamed as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, as revealed by production details.
Steve Arnott, Kate Fleming, and Adrian Dunbar's part remain working to combat corruption within the police force.
Their work "has never been more difficult", and in this climate, the trio will take on their "most delicate case so far."
Fresh Face and Complex Case
A new character, Det Insp Dominic Gough, described as a charming officer known for busts of criminal networks, faces allegations of abusing his position to become a sexual predator.
However, his case could be a intentional diversion from a bigger threat still active in the background, plot details hinted.
In a statement, Jed Mercurio commented: "All cast and crew are deeply thankful to the dedicated viewers."
"It's an honor to have had so many fans track the ups and downs of the unit over six previous seasons and we couldn't be more delighted to be returning for a seventh installment."
He added: "Misconduct in this country is supposed to have ended while the series was off air, so I've been compelled to use my creativity."

The Scottish actor described being part of the series as "the role of a career".
"Beyond the program's popularity but the people I've collaborated with I now call dear friends."
"I can't wait to wear the uniform again and reunite with everyone," he added.

Line of Duty launched in 2012 and evolved into one of the most popular television series of the last decade, attracting notable actors such as Thandiwe Newton.
The BBC has not yet announced when the upcoming series will premiere.
The finale of series six drew the long-running storyline about the hunt for kingpin known as "the mysterious H" to a conclusion, and producers indicated at the moment there were no plans for further series.
Nevertheless, the network confirmed on Tuesday that a seventh series is now in development.
