Iran Claims Attack on US Base in Bahrain, During Widespread Retaliatory Strikes.

Tehran reports attacking a US naval base in Bahrain, as the country executed missile attacks throughout the Middle East in retaliation for a "massive" and ongoing assault against it by the United States and Israeli forces.

Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an zone close to the main base of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The full scale of any damage is uncertain and the US has not commented.

Regional Interceptions

In other parts of the Middle East, the UAE, Qatar and Kuwait - which all house American military installations - reported they have intercepted incoming projectiles in their air space.

In Doha, Qatar's defence ministry stated it had intercepted several missiles seemingly aimed at the al-Udeid air base, the biggest US military installation in the region.

Operation "Truthful Promise 4"

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard said in a statement it was attacking US bases and assets as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the attack on Iran carried out by the US and Israel on Saturday.

That preceding assault - launched at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far targeted areas associated with the Tehran's leadership, with President Trump calling on the Iranian people to rise up against the leadership.

Wider Impacts

In Israel, sirens were heard nationwide after the Israel Defense Forces said it had detected an barrage of missiles from Iran.

The Ministry of Defence of the UAE stated that the nation has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"UAE air defence systems engaged the missiles with great effectiveness and successfully intercepted a several projectiles," the statement continued.

The statement noted wreckage landed in a neighborhood in Abu Dhabi, causing some structural damage and fatalities.

The United States Air Force is stationed at Al Dhafra Air Base, to the south of Abu Dhabi, along with the UAE Air Force.
