In Such Poor Health Walking Was Impossible As a Stranger Virtually Carried Me to a Bathroom.

At the age of nineteenth year, my regular journey to work was on an crowded coach. It remained crowded and would always be completely full once I boarded.

During a certain commute, I was feeling quite nauseous when the coach rocked around each corner. I repeatedly told myself to endure just a little longer until the bus arrived at my stop, and then I could sprint quickly to the closest washroom to throw up.

As we neared the road leading to the destination as it dawned on me I would not be to make it. In an instant, it seemed a fog descended upon me. My vision turned hazy and muffled; as if someone muted everything. I thought, “I’m going to faint”.

Luckily I was toward the front of the bus, so I took a couple of steps forward and asked the driver to stop, explaining to him I was going to vomit. The driver opened the bus doors and I weakly exited on to the pavement.

My intention was to avoid being sick in view of six lanes of traffic, so I forced myself up and began attempting to make my way toward the green space opposite the street, thinking I could I’d at least be able to find some privacy near some foliage to vomit. But then I likely lost consciousness. I could feel my limbs, but I was unable to walk or see clearly, so I began inching my way to the park.

“Are you okay, dear?”

Right then, I was lifted up. I felt someone holding me and a stranger inquired, “Are you okay, dear?” I told this mysterious stranger that I needed to be sick. Therefore, he almost helped me walk into a nearby building and guided me inside the women’s restroom. He asked me whether I required him to remain with me but I declined.

After a short while, I felt better to the point of sitting down when from beyond the door came him inquire, “Do you need anything, love? Is there anything you require?” I could not to rise at that moment but I did succeed to thank him and following a brief period was able to move my legs. I made my way home and spent the next few days recovering from what was later diagnosed as a horrible case of gastroenteritis.

I never saw his features – only his legs and the big container for tools he held – but he helped me, when I was in my weakest state.

Often this world has a way of making you defensive, aggressive and competitive. What he did was the kind of action that reverses that emotional callousness. He demonstrated that humanity’s innate tendency is to be kind, something I love about my fellow humans.
