England Coach Southee Unsure on Ashes Participation
The bowler's last Test for New Zealand was versus the English side in the final month of 2024.
England fast-bowling advisor Southee is currently evaluating the extent of his role will be at the forthcoming Ashes contest in Australia.
The former New Zealand pace bowler is only likely to be available for the first Test due to his involvement in the International League T20 competition, which begins on December 2 in the United Arab Emirates.
Southee, 36, assumed a position as England's pace bowling advisor in the summer after taking 391 wickets in 107 Tests for New Zealand.
Speaking as England's squad for the opening of three Twenty20 games against the Kiwis was announced, he stated of his availability: "We're still working through that at the moment.
"We will determine what happens over the next little while."
England bowling legend Broad had declared the Australia side as their "worst team since 2010", but the consultant was in little doubt over what to expect during the contest, which begins on November 21.
"In my view there's ever a bad Australian cricket team," Southee said.
"Our focus is squarely on our own objectives. In my opinion the quality of [the English] side that's heading out to the host country is brilliant.
"It should be an absolute cracker, that series. Not only [are|do] English and Australian people eagerly anticipate it, I think the whole cricket world is."
However, before the English team head to the city of Perth for the first Ashes match, they take on New Zealand in Christchurch on this Saturday.
