Cowboys player Marshawn Kneeland has died at the age of 24.

Kneeland was drafted by the Cowboys in the second round of the draft in the 2024 NFL Draft and played 18 times for the team, including four starts.

He recorded his initial touchdown in the Tuesday game to the Arizona Cardinals when he recovered a blocked punt.

"He was a cherished team member and member of our organisation," the Dallas Cowboys said.

"Our thoughts and prayers regarding Marshawn are with his partner Catalina and his loved ones."

Kneeland was picked by the Cowboys with the 56th overall pick of the 2024 NFL Draft after playing college football for Western Michigan University.

His representative, Jonathan Perzley, said his "heart breaks" for the passing of a player who "gave his all" into every moment.

"I watched him fight his way from a aspiring young man at Western Michigan with a dream to being a respected professional for the Dallas Cowboys," Perzley commented.

The NFL stated it is "deeply saddened" by the tragic event.
