Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been earned on hard surfaces

A comeback the Russian player claimed his maiden trophy for over two years with success over Corentin Moutet in the competition championship match.

The athlete, a former number one, has endured a challenging season, achieving just one win at the major tournaments and suffering a difficult moment at the US Open.

The player's varied form on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his serve in particular - caused him falling of the world's top 10 and ultimately separating with long-time trainer his previous coach.

Presently working with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, he has consistently advanced in the past month - climaxing in a hard-fought three-set triumph over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

It is Medvedev's first trophy since the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hard court from March of 2023.

Victory also indicates he has achieved twenty-one championships at twenty-one different tournaments.

"It's the first time I'm at a tournament with my two daughters at once, so to get a championship is particularly special," said world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This victory is in dedication of my second daughter Victoria, because the first title I won when my older daughter Alisa was delivered was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had been defeated in his last six title deciders, including in Halle earlier this year.

Medvedev's counter-punching play style and recurring emotional displays on court had prompted some to wonder if his capacity to compete at the highest level was over.

But the player has implemented adjustments in the past month, striving to approach the net and perform aggressively, backed up by an better serve.

Medvedev fought back from a disadvantage in the opening set against the challenging Frenchman, winning 4 of the concluding five games to go ahead.

The competitors swapped break points in the second set before Moutet, bidding for his first professional victory, took control to force a final set.

Moutet defended 4 early opportunities in a competitive deciding set before the champion broke to that score to secure the win.

Suitably, he secured the win with a shot at the net area, with his opponent failing to control a return after a lengthy match.
