Battlefield 6's Relaxed Game Mode Sparks Heated Discussions Regarding Bots, Experience Points, and Queue Times
Recently, the game developers introduced a fresh game mode titled Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this option mirrors the regular Breakthrough setup but features several notable changes:
- Each team has just 8 human participants, with the remaining filled by 32 bots.
- Activities done by real players award full XP, while AI activities offer lower rewards.
- Only two maps are available: Siege of Cairo and Empire State.
- Elements like Player tags, achievements, and stat tracking have been turned off.
In short, the playlist lives up to its name: it's a laid-back version of Breakthrough. At face value, one could assume there's nothing wrong, as it provides more options for gamers looking for alternative methods to enjoy the game. However, gaming history has shown one thing, it is that not everyone will be happy. Which is to say, a lot of BF6 fans are mad.
Community Responses: From Fury to Praise
"People want real players. Don't repeat the errors of your rivals," states a response to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing idea," comments a different user. Meanwhile, in community forums, a player notes, "I have no idea where we are headed with this game," while another lists everything they consider to be broken in the game: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."
However, for every complaint, there are players explaining how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's very fun to warm up, real players keep it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," says a forum post. "The community fails to see that there are gamers who actually go outside and can't play this game 24/7. Allow them to find a middle ground," states another. A response on Twitter explains that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is great for me," and another applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Valid Criticisms and Community Feedback
Despite the support, players have constructive reasons to criticize Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have pointed out that it could increase queue times more extended for different playlists due to the sheer number of options currently available. Similarly, some areas often face AI-filled matches in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears somewhat counterintuitive that the mode does not begin without a minimum number of human gamers, despite it focuses mostly on combat against bots.
Finally, one of the biggest complaints is that Battlefield Portal was promised to provide complete rewards, including AI matches, but that got canned when they attempted to remove bot farms from the mode. So Casual Breakthrough seems like the community meeting them in the middle, according to forum feedback. Another labels this mode as the devs "making a mistake significantly, I had great enjoyment in the first couple of days, what prompted them to change it?"
Looking Ahead: Will Changes Occur?
Should Battlefield Studios has proven anything so far with the latest installment, it's that they're paying attention and acting on player input. Tasks that were overly hard got fixed rapidly, as did the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, should analytics shows this new playlist isn't performing to their standards, they won't be shy to change it again.
